Did you risk the biggest failure in Tom Cruise’s career?

The new film, “Digger,” with protagonist Tom Cruise and director of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarriou, had a very poor start at the cinema.

The film collected about $8m in the US and $12m from international markets during the first weekend.

The figures are very low compared to film costs.

The budget is reported to be at least $125m, while some sources estimate it to 160 million, including some $100m in marketing.

To cover the expenses, “%Digger” would have to reach about $350m in global collections.

Analysts predict the film could cause a loss of about $150 million, which would turn it into the largest financial failure of Cruise’s career.

The film was thought of as one of the main price season projects.

Cruise plays an odd billionaire of oil, in the cast are John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Sandra Huller and Jesse Plemons.

Although the film received some positive assessments from critics, including four-star assessments from the BBC, the Daily Mail and The Telegraph, there was also sharp criticism from The Guardian, The Times and Variety.

Meanwhile, on the same weekend, the film — Verity, with Anne Hattay and Dakota Johnson — led the collections with $32.6m. /Telegraphy/
