Drought is causing delays in the autumn sowing of agricultural cultures in the hospital region.
Farmers say climate change is creating major problems before the start of planting barley and wheat. Because of a lack of rainfall, they cannot enter their fields to plow. Hopes are in possible rainfall over the next weekend.
We don’t remember a year like this. There is no rainfall, and almost 80 to 90 percent of the surfaces have not been plowed. Even after the harvest we failed to plow because the wine was dry too, said Goce Serafimovski, deputy head of the Agricultural Association.
In addition to drought, the increase in plant spending, especially in the price of oil and artificial waste, has increased production costs. Preparations for planting will cost farmers about 1,500 denarii per double, which they feel is not an economic advantage.
Serafimovski says they have contacts with the relevant ministry and will seek help through the Intervention Fund to deal with the difficulties created.
Meanwhile, farmers in northern Macedonia plant about 85 percent of the surfaces of grainy cultures during the fall in order to ensure higher productivity.
