The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation has revealed that hackers supported by North Korea are behind the cyberattack on the Benance cryptade platform, during which assets worth $6.3 billion were stolen.
According to the FBI, the attack was carried out by the Trader Traitor Group. Investigators have arranged attempts by its members to convert the stolen funds into the ethereum saltemone, while awaiting similar moves.
Meanwhile, Beanance has announced that it has replaced 90 percent of stolen assets. The remainder consists of lower liquid land, whose security requires more time.
Co-chairman of the platform, Richard Tenng, has stated that the company will cover the rest as well, ensuring that users will not face the financial losses of the incident.
According to Banance, preliminary investigations suggest intervention may have started by compromising an engineer’s laptop. This allegedly enabled the attackers to infiltrate one of the platform systems and perform unauthorized withdrawals.
The attack has been described by experts as the largest theft of salt notes ever recorded.
