A wide international-sized police operation has started today in Kosovo, where numerous police forces are engaged in raids on several locations in Pristina, Ferizaj and Fushe Kosovo, the Signal newspaper exclusively teaches.
Targeted by investigations are allegations of laundering of money and international criminal activities, while the action is under way in co-ordination with foreign authorities, including German authorities.
Signal’s sources suggest that the operation is being realised by the Directorate for Investigation of Economic Crimes and Corruption of the Kosovo Police, under a Special Prosecutor-led investigation of the Republic of Kosovo.
According to information provided by the signal, raids are under orders from the Constitutional Court in Pristina, the Special Department, while police units are engaged in several different locations.
What makes this operation especially important is its international size.
In parallel with operations in Kosovo, according to signal sources, co-ordinated operations are under way in Germany and in some other European states, within the framework of attempts to whiteen a suspected criminal activity exceeding the borders of a state.
Targeting Money, Gold, and Electronic Equipment
Signal sources suggest that the controls are aimed at providing material and financial evidence that can help identify persons involved and track the flow of suspected money.
Mobile phones, computers, other electronic devices, financial documentation, cash, gold, and other valuables are among the categories of evidence and property that investigators are seeking during the raids.
Investigations are also expected to focus on analyzing communications, transactions and possible financial links between persons and subjects that may have been involved in the alleged activity.
International frauds and money laundering allegations
The operation comes at a time when financial fraud, including those carried out through call centres known as Call Center, has been the target of local and international authorities’ investigations.
Such schemes may include defrauding citizens through false investment bids, while tracking money and identifying final beneficiaries are among the main challenges of financial investigations.
However, it has not yet been confirmed whether today’s operation is directly linked to any concrete network of call centers.
Operation Still Developing
So far there is no final data on the number of raided locations, eventually arrested persons or the value of money and items that may have been seized.
The operation is under way on several fronts simultaneously, while its results are expected to clarify the size of suspected activities and international eventual ties.
The signal paper will continue reporting on developments and results of this action as soon as other information is obtained from the ongoing operation.
