A week and now, protests are continuing following the assassination of Arlinda Zekiaj in Peja, with citizens and activists seeking justice for the victim and institutional responsibility for the failures that precede tragedy.
Protesters demand that the killing of women be handled as a national emergency, while also demanding prosecution of prosecutors and judges who have been taken in the Arlinda case.
Among their demands is the dismissal of Justice Minister Donika Grovalla, and Interior Minister Jedal Svecla, after both refused to resign. The resignation has also been requested from the head of Peja, Gazmend Muhharrier.
Arlinda Zekaj was killed on October 25th in Vitomirica in Pec, from her former pact. The murder occurred just days after she had warned with letter institutions that her life was in danger.
She had come back from the police, where she had presented her ex-husband with a release when the murder occurred.
The case has prompted numerous public reactions, protests and developments in security and justice institutions. Among the measures taken after the event are the resignation of Kosovo Police General Director Gazmend Hoxha, as well as the suspension of police officials and prosecutors.
