The Spanish football player died in the hospital the day before he crashed with FC Andorra’s goalkeeper, Jesus Owono, during a match in the second Spanish football category. After the incident, the goalkeeper was sentenced to red card, while De Miguel remained lying on the field and the meeting was interrupted.
The attacker had suffered head and chest injuries. Initially, his condition was reported as serious but stable. However, during Tuesday’s morning, it deteriorated, and the footballer failed to survive the wounds.
After the event, Spanish authorities have launched investigations into goalkeeper Owono for the possibility of a criminal offence caused by negligence. According to reports, the doorkeeper has experienced a major emotional shock after the incident and collapsed in the dressing room.
However, Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s chief prosecutor, Jose Luis Sanchez-Jauregui, has deemed it very impossible to establish a criminal procedure against the 25-year-old.
In respect for the late footballer, a minute of silence was held before Tuesday’s Champions League matches, which will be repeated Wednesday.
Tenerife fans, meanwhile, organised touching views at the club stadium. They placed flowers, lit candles, and left pictures and messages in memory of De Miguel.
Today, Tenerife’s heart is in mourning. It’s hard to find words when someone who was part of our history left early, said one of the messages left by the fans.
