Wall Street loses $3.2 trillion in one day, the share of technology suffers a severe decline

American markets have experienced one of the worst days of the end, after Wall Street lost a total of $3.2 trillion worth of dollars during Thursday, in a decline driven mainly by investors’ withdrawal from shares in technology and companies linked to artificial intelligence.

Massive stock sales wiped out a significant portion of the profits registered after the US mesmandate elections, while concerns about slow investment in expanding data centres increased uncertainty in markets.

The Dow Jones Industrial Index dropped 3.44%, stopping at 51,521.28 points. Meanwhile, S&P 500 scored a 4.3% drop, dropping to 7,353.80 points, while Nasdaq suffered the biggest loss, with 5.52%, reaching 24,315 points.

At the center of the pressure were technology companies and those involved in the development of artificial intelligence, whose shares fell for the second day in a row.

Investors are showing growing uncertainty about the pace of investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure, especially in building and expanding data centres.

Pressure on markets has also increased political uncertainty in the United States. Concerns that a deep victory of the Democrats could lead to obstacles or slow down projects for expanding data centres have negatively affected investors’ confidence in the sector.
