Ten models of healthy nutrition are related to slower biological aging, according to a study by the German Center for Neuroderative Diseases ( DZNE).
The study, which examined the data of about 7,500 people, examined ten different models of nutrition, including the Mediterranean, Nordic diet, plant-based diets, The UN, aimed at controlling blood pressure, and the MIND diet, which relates to brain health.
To assess biological aging, researchers analyzed chemical changes in DNA, known as metilim, using three models for measuring epigenetic aging.
The results showed that those who followed the most recommended dietary recommendations had signs of slower biological aging. However, the differences between various food patterns were minor.
According to researchers, more than 70 percent of the biological feeding processes were common to all models analyzed.
Several more specific relationships were noted at the DAS diet, heart – health processes, and MIND diets, which relate to memory and thinking processes.
Another finding was that the link between healthy nutrition and slower aging was more pronounced among smokers. Researchers suspect that this may be linked to the biological damage caused by tobacco, although the exact mechanism remains unclear.
The authors point out that there is not only one proper diet and that it is not necessary to pursue a perfect diet to take advantage of healthy food habits.
However, the study shows a link between feeding and molecular aging markers, but it does not prove that diet is directly the cause of slower aging.
