The special prosecutor has considered the case for allegations that police officials, prosecutors and judges may not have acted properly in dealing with the Arlinda Zekij case before she was killed in Vitomirica in Pec.
Special Prosecutor Dren Paca’s chief prosecutor, deputy, said at a news conference that the file was accepted about three days ago. According to him, the Special is considering whether there has been inaction or neglect by officials and whether this may have affected the following event.
Paca explained that the special prosecutor’s review is limited to the official’s possible responsibility. Other parts of the case are being handled by the Constitutional Prosecutor in Pristina.
Prior to the assassination, Arlinda Zekiaj had reported domestic violence and sought protection from institutions. Her brother-in-law is suspected of murder.
After the assassination, citizens protested in Pristina, seeking justice for Arlinda and accountability from institutions that had handled the case. Police officials were suspended and measures were taken against the chief prosecutor and a prosecutor in Pec. Kosovo Police Director Gazmend Hoxha resigned.
