Promises of profit from investments, victims allegedly left without money

International investigations have uncovered an alleged scheme through which citizens, mainly from German – speaking countries, were tempted to invest money in platforms that were presented as legitimate.

The individuals involved were allegedly represented as agents or financial mediators, promising the victims benefits from investments in krypovaluta, foreign currency and other financial instruments.

But the profits shown on platform screens were allegedly false, while the money citizens transferred were not invested as promised.

According to Europol, investigations have identified a structure that allegedly provided fraudulent platforms for criminal groups, while call centres served to contact and convince victims to transfer money.

The size of this operation goes far beyond Kosovo.

Europol and Eurojust have indicated that the November 3rd action has resulted in seven international arrests, raids on 17 locations and the seizure of more than 100 servers.

According to European institutions, investigations have identified financial losses of over 4m euros, while the scheme allegedly had potential casualties in at least 50 states.

The operation has included authorities from Kosovo, Albania, Cyprus, Finland, Germany and Northern Macedonia, with investigative action also in Israel.

Investigations have been conducted in co-operation with German authorities and with Eurojust and Europol support.

Kosovo raids seized car and electronic equipment

In Kosovo, the operation was carried out by economic and cybercrime investigators, in co-ordination with the Special Prosecutor.

The raids have temporarily seized cars, mobile phones, computers, and other electronic devices that can serve as material evidence.
