The suspect in the 49-year-old murder of Arlinda Silla Zekaj in Vitomirica of Peja continues to be on the run, while Kosovo police have indicated they are taking action to locate and arrest him.
Albert Sylaj, brother-in-law of the victim, allegedly killed him with an axe on Sunday evening, October 25th, on the street of Man Dedushaj in Vitomirica.
The case has become even more disturbing because of developments preceding the assassination. The victim had sought help from police for domestic violence and had returned home with a police patrol. About 21:10, police were reportedly found without signs of life.
Prior to the assassination, Arlinda was addressing with an urgent statement the chief prosecutor of the Constitutional Prosecutorship in Pec, demanding action against institutions that, according to her, had failed to fulfill their duties.
Under the investigation into the murder, the victim’s husband, Jeton Sylaj, has been detained for 48 hours after interviewing by police investigators.
Police and prosecutors are investigating the circumstances in the case, while it remains to be seen when the 49-year-old murder suspect will be located and arrested.
