Journalist Kreshnik Gashi has criticised dealing with cases of violence against women from institutions, citing some concrete cases even from the Pec Community.
In Debat Plus, Gashi has said that, despite reports of cases of violence against women and judicial decisions, according to him, there has been insufficient accountability from persons and institutions.
He has mentioned cases when men convicted of violence against women have received parole sentences. He also spoke of cases of police officers charged with violence against women who, according to him, have reached agreement on guiltyness and have continued to work in the police.
Gashi has also criticised the case of a police officer, who said it was reportedly exercising violence against a woman and that he later legalised before students.
A man beating a woman, a policeman beating a woman, legalized before the students, Gashi said, criticising the way such cases are handled by institutions.
He also mentioned the case of a 15-year-old girl whose violation, according to him, a person was originally sentenced to five months in prison. He has said that after the retrial, the Constitutional Court in Pec had pronounced a sentence of five years and six months, while the case was later passed to the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court.
According to Gashi, in this case the issue of signing the complaint had become determining in the judicial procedure, though, as he said, guilt and the fact of the violation had not been disputed.
This is the level with which our system functions, Gashi has declared.
