Italy plans to fine drivers driving too slowly

SHofers that circulate at extremely low speeds in specific segments of highways in Italy may face fines of up to 160 euros in the future. The move aims to improve traffic flow and avoid traffic barriers in circulation.

The new rule will initially be implemented on six-lane highways and is expected to be included soon in Italian legislation, Italian legal portals report {Blue News] and Swiss intelligence website, according to the report. dpa, broadcast I did. tv.

Each year millions of tourists travel through Italian highways. According to Italian Environmental Protection Agency I SPRA, during 2024, some 40.7 million foreign visitors entered Italy in cars, making up nearly 46 percent of all international visitors ‘ entrances.

According to reports, the proposal envisions a minimum speed of 60 miles [100 km] an hour in the lane immediately near the middle of the highway divider. It’s about segments that have at least three lanes in each direction.

However, exceptions to this rule are also provided, in cases when road signaling determines another speed or when traffic conditions require slower movement.

These include dense fog, heavy rainfall, accidents, street work, and motorcades.

The fine of 40 to 160 euros is part of the new Road Code project, which was approved by the Council of Ministers in October and then handed over to the Parliament. His final text is still expected to be adopted.

In Germany, where much of the highway network has no speed limit, there is no law that directly prohibits slow driving. However, the prevention of traffic flow is considered administrative offence and penaltyd with a small fine.

In many countries drivers who move noticeably slower than the rest of the traffic can be fined for reckless or irresponsible driving.

Even in Italy, driving at extremely low speeds, when hindering circulation or endangering other traffic participants, is forbidden. Such a rule applies to Switzerland. /I did. tv
