Chief Prosecutor Gashi and Prosecutor Qavolli meet protesters’ representatives in Arlinda Zekaj case

Religious activist Liridona Sijarina has declared after meeting with Chief State Prosecutor Zejnullah Gashi, and State Prosecutor Ersan Qavolli, that they have sought urgent treatment of the incident of the assassination of Arlinda Zekaj and responsibility for all officials who may have failed to handle childicide cases.

Chief Prosecutor Gashi is so far the only one of the institutions leaders who has been awaiting protest representatives in his office.

Syjarina has said that, despite the fact that the cases have been sent to the Prosecutorial Council, they have insisted that institutions take concrete action and that there will be no immune persons within the justice system.

Sijarina has voiced doubts about the institutions’ response that legal procedures will be followed, stressing that the absence of a concrete deadline could lead to repetition of similar cases.

We submitted our demands and insisted that the State Chief Prosecutor, despite launching cases at the Prosecutorial Council, urgently take up the case of the murder of Arlinda Zekaj and childicide cases. What was said and what we assured the chief state prosecutor and co-ordinator against domestic violence is that there will be no more immune people inside. And we know this from the past, that there have been immune people and that the entire chain of justice system continues to be governed and kept by people who are immune. But we guaranteed inside that, if there are immune men in our work, we will channel our commitment directly to those who have to stop these vulnerable people, she said.

We were told that legal procedures will be followed, which is a dose of suspicion for us, which we have seen in the past, when cases are taken in a common procedure and when we are not given a deadline. What does that mean? That the state is taking Arlinda’s murder with urgency? This can lead to repetition. People who take women to murder end up returning to institutions. We don’t have to back down and we won’t stop the engagement until we see all the acters that have led Arlinda to murder, not only fired but also prisoners. We’ve been thinking about blockades and we’ll insist that these people say definitely and give vows. That was our request from day one. We will insist on different methods. The blockade we had yesterday resulted in this meeting. We came here and we locked the door. We will continue to do so as long as we do not get concrete answers from each institution, Sijarina has declared.

She has made it known that on Saturday, at 12: 00 p.m., national protest was called.
