At the Special Department of the Foundation Court in Pristina, judgment against Ramadan Morina is continuing today, November 4th, charged with war crimes against the civilian population during the recent war in Kosovo.
Morina faces serious charges related to the March 1999 events in the village of Burim in Malisheva, where 34 Albanian civilians were killed.
According to the Special Prosecutor’s Act of the Republic of Kosovo on 31 March 1999, Morina, co-ordination with other members of Serbian police and military forces, allegedly participated in criminal acts against the Albanian civilian population.
The prosecution claims that during these events, 35 Albanian men who had been forced to line up were separated from a group of civilians, while women and children had fled under gun threat.
According to the description of the indictment, a member of Serbian police forces had opened fire with automatic weapons, killing 34 Albanian civilians.
Morina is also accused of participating in the destruction of property, the mass exile of the civilian population, and the plundering of property of about 1,000 citizens who were not involved in fighting.
The Indictee Refuses Guilty
In the initial review, held on December 30th 2025, Ramadan Morina was declared innocent, claiming that during the period 1998, 1999 had not been in Kosovo at all and that he had evidence to do so.
Morina was arrested in August 2025 in Pristina, while the Special Prosecution filed charges against him in December of that same year.
In March 2026, the Supreme Court had refused a plea for protection of legitimacy concerning continuing its detention.
Meanwhile, at the June 16th 2026 session, the court review was postponed following the defence request for the assurance of the protected witness’s statement, identified with the D1 code.
The trial is conducted before the trial panel led by Judge Beqman Beqiri.
The trial against Morina continues, while its criminal responsibility remains to be determined by the tribunal on the basis of evidence administered during the process.
