A humanitarian centre in the Bronx of New York, which for years has helped thousands of people in need, has discontinued activity after stopping its founder, Albanian-American Alexander Nealaj, from American immigration authorities ( ICE).
According to American Media Report NBC New York, Albanian American Open Association offered food assistance to thousands each month, becoming an important point of support for troubled economic families, Olgraph writes.
Nilaj, who was behind this humanitarian initiative, was banned by immigration authorities, while after the development of this case, the organisation faced a halt to its activity.
The center reportedly distributed food for about 7,000 to 8,000 people a month, helping low – income families and individuals in need of constant support.
The case has sparked concern in the Albanian-American community, due to the impact that the end of the organisation’s activity may have on those who relied on its services.
The event has turned attention to the role of the humanitarian organisations of the Albanian diaspora in the United States, which through voluntary initiatives contribute to assistance to communities in need./Telegraphy/
