Newborns in Tetovo bring not only yellow landscapes but also the constant alarm of polluted air. Although temperatures have declined and the city has passed the threshold of minimal pollution, institutional response is missing. Ecologists estimate that the main problem lies in the inaction of local institutions and the failure to control large pollutants.
On the other hand, the Tetovo municipality explains that real shares on the ground have not yet begun, linking them to the official heating season calendar.
But how are citizens warming up? In the absence of a central heating network and high energy prices, many families are forced to burn whatever they can from wet trees to industrial and plastic wastes that turn into poison for the environment.
Experts and environmental activists say the long-term solution requires capital investments and direct state subsidies in efficient systems, such as thermal pumps.
As institutions wait for November to turn on inspection engines, and citizens calculate every power kilowatt to make it through the month, Tetovo continues to be a hostage to polluted air. Without a real subvention strategy and no precautions, this year’s winter is at risk of once again being a losing battle with smog. / TV21/
