Russia and Ukraine have launched a limited ceasefire in the southern town of Olesky, Ukraine, with the goal of allowing humanitarian aid to be delivered and evacuation of civilians. However, attacks and fighting have continued in other parts of the two countries.
The local truce went into effect on Tuesday, October 27, in the Russian forces occupied town, where residents are facing major food shortages, medicines and other vital supplies, reports Reutres.
The agreement aims to enable the delivery of humanitarian aid and the creation of safe corridors for the evacuation of civilians. According to reports, as many as 2,000 residents remain in the city, mostly elderly people in need of help.
Meanwhile, outside the ceasefire zone, the attacks have continued. Strikes in Kiev and other Ukrainian cities reported casualties and injuries. Fearful attacks have also caused casualties in other territories involved in the conflict.
The truce in Olesky is a limited humanitarian agreement and does not imply the general interruption of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
