National protests have begun following the assassination of Arlinda Zekiaj in Vitomirica in Peja, in a case where her brother-in-law, Albert Sylaj, is suspected of murder.
The protest, organised by the Council for Religious Thoughts and Action, is being held by the motto Women’s Murder to Be Treated as national emergency, seeking justice for the victim and concrete measures for preventing violence against women.
Hundreds of citizens have gathered in the Zahir Pajaziti Square, where they are seeking justice for Arlinda Zekaj and institutional response to gender-based violence cases.
Protesters are demanding that women’s killings be not treated as isolated cases, but as a serious social problem requiring institutional responsibility and immediate action.
The Arlinda Zekaj case has brought to focus the requirements for justice and the need for more effective measures in preventing women’s killings in Kosovo. /Telegraphy/
