  • Nidal Hasan will be executed by firing squad, the first US military execution since 1961

US President Donald Trump has approved the execution of former U.S. Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, sentenced to death for the 2009 attack at Fort Hood military base in Texas.

If the execution is carried out, it will be the first US military execution since 1961 and the first by firing squad since 1945. The decision was proposed by Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, while the Pentagon is now entitled to determine further steps, Television broadcasts.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced that the Secretary of Army will determine the timing and location of the execution. Presidential approval does not necessarily mean that the execution will be carried out immediately, as Hasan may still pursue other legal ways to postpone it.

Hasan, then major and psychiatrist of the US Army, opened fire on November 5, 2009, at a medical center in Fort Hood, where soldiers were preparing for dislocation. The attack left 13 people dead, including 12 active soldiers and a former military man, while 32 others were injured.

In the 2013 military trial, Hasan was found guilty of 45 counts, including attempted murder and attempted murder, and sentenced to death. He had admitted to being the person who had carried out the attack and said he had acted to prevent American soldiers from going to Afghanistan and fighting Muslims.

Executions in the American military system are extremely rare. Hasan is one of only four prisoners currently located in the military warhead of Fort Leavenworth prison in Kansas.

Under American military law, a death sentence handed down by the military court must be approved by the president before it is implemented. The process also includes judicial reviews and complaints, what might happen

The last U.S. military execution was carried out in 1961 when soldier John Bennett was hanged in Fort Leavenworth. While the last known execution by the U.S. Army dates back to November 1945, when firing was used with firearms.

The invasion is a rare method of execution at the state level as well. In 2025, South Carolina carried out the first U.S. shooting execution after 15 years. Currently, some American states allow this method.

Hasan’s decision comes only days after the failure of Christa Pike’s execution in Tennessee through lethal injection. The case has brought to focus execution methods and practical difficulties related to lethal injections.

In Hasan’s case, however, there is still no specific date for execution, and legal procedures can further extend the process. /Telegraphy/

The chairman of the Drenas municipality, Ramiz Ladrovci, has called for political agreement and unity, saying Kosovo does not need unrest and confrontation.

In a response, Ludrovci has criticised political delays, stressing that they cannot improve within a day.

When the car is broken, there are many paths. The unreasonable delays, from the opposition’s position, do not improve for a day. Kosovo does not need unrest, tear gas throwing, or aggressive police units, he has written.

Ladrovci has said the country needs agreements, naming politics as a process that requires flexibility and peace.

Politics is a heavy sport, but, flexible, peaceful and kind to the forces that love nation’s homeland, he has declared.

He has called for unity about the Kosovo Liberation Army, implementation of the Constitution and the functioning of institutions.

  • In Zurich, more and more fines are paid through community work

In Cyril, a growing number of people are choosing to pay off fines through community work instead of suffering prison sentences. Authorities say this practice is resulting in success.

Speed violations, driving under the influence of alcohol, or driving without tickets in public transportation are among the works that may result in high fines. In some cases, they may reach several thousand Swiss francs.

People who can’t afford to pay fines have the opportunity to repay them through community work instead of imprisonment SRF.

The possibility of replacing community labour sentences exists for years in Switzerland. However, since 2019, the number of such cases at the national level has dropped by about one third. For this reason, the Cyril Canton aimed to change this trend.

Nearly 1,400 individuals seized the opportunity

Since September 2025, the Cyril Canton itself manages the so – called Justice Information Center. Earlier, a foundation was run by this service on behalf of the canton.

Désirée Weber Renz, responsible for the centre, says the results have been positive.

We have achieved our goals. We’ve improved access, we contact people faster, we can do better with them and refer more effectively to appropriate services, she claims.

Since taking responsibility from the canton in September 2025, the centre has accepted 1,388 requests, almost all approved.

According to authorities, about 80 percent of cases end successfully.

People who choose this form of punishment are engaged in various jobs, such as maintaining green spaces, recycling, working with simple artisans, or working in the kitchen, including at the Triemley City Hospital.

We are so lucky to have one Large portfolios of institutions and businesses, says Weber Renz. Currently, about 250 jobs are involved in this programme, enabling authorities to take into account the interests and skills of convicted persons.

    An Alternative to Benefiting

A woman from Syrihu, who wants to remain anonymous, has cleared the fines by working in the washing of dishes at Triemli City Hospital. She was fined for violating traffic regulations and ticket-free trips to the tram.

Instead of paying fines or serving prison sentences, she performed 480 hours of community work, corresponding to about three months of work.

In the last year, almost 1,400 people in the Cyril canton have seized this opportunity.

According to Weber Renz, this solution brings benefits to all. Condemned persons do not give up their daily life for a long time, while reactions to the programme have been largely positive.

Even for the canton this practice has financial benefits. In addition to avoiding administrative procedures related to admission and release from prison, savings are considerable.

Every day someone doesn’t spend it in prison, the Cyril Canton saves 240 francs, says Weber Renz.

About 40 percent more people seize this opportunity

Since the canton received a penalty information center under management, the number of people who seize it has increased by about 40 percent, according to Webster Renz.

It stresses that the success rate is high and that about 80 percent of commitments end successfully.

If, during the execution of the sentence, difficulties arise, we can very well support clients and clients, she says.

However, if working in the community should eventually cease, for example because of lack of reliable agreements or serious problems, the condemned person must suffer the rest of his prison sentence./Telegraphy/

  • PDK meets at 10:00

The head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo will meet at 10:00.

That is how members of this party have announced.

At midnight the constitutional deadline for electing the president ends.

If there is no epilogue for the head of state by this time, Kosovo will enter the four-year election process.

In the meantime, at 12:00 p.m. platform, no, on my behalf, has warned the popular protest where amendments to the Special Court Law will be sought. / KP/

  • Who remains in charge of the state if Kosovo does not elect the president today?

Kosovo has until 6 October to elect the new president. If the Parliament fails to do this, what follows is clear: The Assembly is distributed and extraordinary elections are announced. But far less clear is who would wield the president’s powers after that?

The Constitutional Court, in the latest indictment of the Ko256/26 and KO258/26 cases, has concluded that the 60-day term for election of the president began on August 8th and ends on October 6th.

This is directly related to Article 82 of the Constitution, under which the Assembly is distributed if the president is not elected within 60 days of the start of the selection procedure, writes Free Europe.

So if the president is not elected by 6 October, a special decision by the Assembly for his distribution is not needed simply to activate the constitutional provisions for the distribution of the Assembly.

The court had clarified this principle earlier. In the act of March 2026, it had concluded that failure to elect the president within the constitutional deadline leads to the distribution of the Parliament and early elections, which should be held within 45 days.

But another constitutional problem arises here: Who remains at the head of the state?

Under ordinary circumstances, the president’s competencies would exercise the chairman of the Assembly as the president’s task counsel.

But in the current situation, this constitutional solution has been complicated by the fact that Parliament Speaker Albulen Haxhiu has already exercised the task for six months.

Hadziu took office after the end of Vjosa Osmani’s mandate on April 4th. But, according to Article 90, paragraph 3 of the Constitution, the post of the incumbent’s duty could not be exercised for a period longer than six months.

This six – month period ended on Sunday, October 4.

    Constitutional Inequities

It is here that a uncertainty arises that the Constitution does not expressly address: who exercises presidential competencies after the maximum six-month period of taskeering ends, while the new president has not yet been elected?

According to the interpretations of several civil society organisations in the country, the six-month border of Article 90 is absolute. In this reading, Haxhiu cannot continue to exercise presidential competencies only because the new president has not yet been elected.

Naim Jakaj from the Kosovo Institute for Justice argues that, after the deadline is expired, the country remains without the president’s duty.

Jakaj tells Radio Free Europe that this poses danger to constitutional chaos, because without president some important state tasks may remain untrained.

The president is also the Supreme Commander of the Kosovo Security Force. If the country remains without a president and without a task leader with a valid mandate, there will be no one to exercise this post, Jakaj says.

Jakaj adds that the task leader was seen as a temporary solution, during which political parties would have to reach agreement on electing the president.

Unfortunately, so far more has been seen which party belongs to the post than the process and criteria the president must meet, he estimates.

Thus, this constitutional vacuum creates an immediate practical problem: If by midnight the Parliament fails to elect the new president, who would exercise the other competencies that the Constitution assigns to the president, and who would declare early elections?

In an analysis released on October 2nd, the Kosovo Democratic Institute ( KDI, which examines the exercise of the president’s office beyond the six-month border, estimated that the Constitution does not clearly predict who exercises presidential competence after its completion.

KDI called on Parliament Speaker Albulen Haxhiu, in the quality of the president’s task manager, or other authorised parties, to address the Constitutional Court for clarification regarding the exercise of these competencies after 4 October and the authority to declare elections in case the president is not elected.

So far, such a request has not been made.

Radio Free Europe asked the President’s Office if Haxhiu could continue to exercise presidential competencies after the end of the six-month term, who would announce early elections in the event of the Parliament’s distribution, and whether the Constitutional Court would be required for clarification, but no response was received.

The Constitutional Court, until now, has not specifically resolved this constitutional vacuum, while, according to KDI, the lack of an expressed follow-up mechanism after the six-month end creates uncertainty about exercising the president’s competencies.

This is especially important, as some of these competencies are necessary for exit from the crisis.

The president, the leader of the post, respectively, is the one who proclaims elections for the Parliament and, after the elections, calls the first meeting of the new legislature.

Therefore, if the president is not elected by 6 October, the issue is not only when the upcoming elections will be held but also who will have the authority to declare them.

According to Jakaj, since it seems there will not be a quick agreement between political parties, perhaps the Parliament has had to hold the voting process for president Monday, even if the vote failed.

In that case, the task leader could call political parties and set the date for new elections. After the elections, the new Assembly would meet within the constitutional deadline and elect the president. The president would then appoint the mandate for forming the government. This would be an urgent option to get the country off the blockade, Jakaj tells the REL.

In the absence of a clear constitutional interpretation, this dilemma could end again before the Constitutional Court.

  • Trump says the campaign against the House of Yemen will go “ very well”

US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that the military campaign against the Houses in Yemen ? Who backed by Iran will go very well.

Trump’s comments to reporters outside the White House came at the time Yemeni launched the Yemeni Association operation with the aim of restoring state institutions, the liberation of the capital Sana and the end of the coup by the Houth militia, according to Yemen’s Presidential Council of Guidance, Rasad al-Almi.

Everything will be fine. It’s gonna be great, Trump responded when he was asked about his opinion on the new offensive to retake territories.

By contrast, the forces of Yemen’s government, backed by Saudi Arabia, have claimed to have put the strategic area of the Bab al-Mandab Strait under the broad offensive against Iran-backed rebels.

The World Army said they took control of the Bab al-Mandabi area and Dhubab military airport, while cutting off the road linking Dukba and the town of Mokha.

According to the army, hundreds of Houth fighters are surrounded in the area.

Government forces have also claimed to have recovered Mokhan, a strategic portual city at the Red Sea.

However, government and military sources quoted by international agencies have produced various versions, saying forces may have reached only the outskirts of the city.

Land offensive is being supported by an intensive Saudi air campaign.

The Riyadh-led coalition said around 100 fighter planes are offering air support and that 324 targets named high-value have been hit.

On the other hand, Houth have claimed to have attacked targets in Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh International Airport and oil company objects Saudi Aramco. The damages claims have not been independently verified. /Telegraphy/

  • AfD aims to lead parliament in Saxonine-Anhalt, BSW becomes crucial

The far-right party in Germany, Alternative for Germany ( The AfD), is aiming to take the lead in a provincial parliament for the first time, as Saxony-Anhalt deputies gather today for the first session after the September 6th elections.

AfD has nominated MP Tobias Rausch for the post of president of the provincial parliament in Magdeburg. The outcome of the vote is expected to matter beyond the land policy, as it will be a first test for relations between the AfD and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance ( BSW).

AfD won the election with 43.8 per cent of the vote, providing 39 of the 83 seats in parliament. As the largest parliamentary group, it has the right to propose the candidate for president, but the simple majority of valid votes is needed for his election.

This makes the BSW’s stance crucial, which has five deputies and has declared Rausch will support it. Meanwhile, the CDU, SPD, Green Book and the Left Party have indicated they will vote against the AfD candidate, Telegraphed.

The AfD branch in Saxonine-Anhalt is classified by the local authorities for protecting the constitution as the confirmed organisation of the right extreme. For this reason, the election of an AfD politician at parliament’s helm is considered by observers as a development of particular political importance.

The post is not merely ceremonial. Parliament’s president heads the plenary hearings, heads the Council of the Non-Responds, and oversees the parliamentary administration. Politologist Nicolas Spohn said the impact of this post lies mainly on procedural issues and the implementation of parliament’s regulation.

Rausch has tried to present himself as a pragmatic figure. I am not an extremist, I am pragmatic, he has stated, adding that he intends to take into account the interests of all parties and that the debates in parliament are tough on issues but fair to individuals.

However, voting for the president of parliament does not determine who will lead the country government.

This post is intended to receive AfD’s top candidate, Ulrich Siegmund, who is expected to run for the post of country prime minister in December. To be elected, he will need at least 42 votes.

For that very reason, today’s vote is seen as a first test of relations between the AfD and BSW. Supporting the five BSW deputies for Rausch may be an important signal to the way relations between the two forces will develop over the coming months.

The inaugural session starts at 11:00 and the president of parliament will be elected by a secret vote. If the candidate does not get the necessary majority in the first round, further rounds of voting could be held.

Meanwhile, protests outside parliament have also been warned. The Alliance {Solidaris Magdeburg) is expected to organise a demonstration along with other civic initiatives.

AfD has also secured the change of the seat plan in parliament’s hall. As the largest group, it will now sit in the center of the hall instead of the traditional position at the right end.

Until the election and oath of the new land prime minister, the current government of Saxony-Anhalt will continue to remain in office. /Telegraphy/

  • Qrolli: Today is not the day to bring the country back, to vote on President and Special Bill.

Vetevendosje Movement MP Vogan Qrolli has called for the Kosovo Parliament to vote on the President of the Republic and the Bill for Change and Complete of the Law on Specialised Chambers.

Qroll has named these two issues part of the same institutional obligation, arguing that the country needs functional institutions and decision-making.

Today is not the day to bring the state back: we vote on the president and vote on the Special Bill because both are part of the same obligation to give the country functional institutions and decision making, Qorroll has declared.

He has also warned of the consequences that, according to him, would have gone to the polls at this stage of political developments.

Voting in the elections hurts The Hague and our Republic, LVV deputy has indicated.

The town has used harsh tones against those who, according to him, are acting motivated by political clashes, calling on MPs to avoid a new election scenario.

You’ll regret it if you act in this rage and insinuation by political sealers, he wrote. /Telegraphy/
