The tense protest in Pristina &#82/11; Police come out with notice

Kosovo police have announced that the protest held Monday around the Kosovo Government and Assembly facilities has continued during evening hours, causing the situation to strain.

According to police, a group of protesters have repeatedly thrown various items, pyrotechnic tools and fireworks towards state objects. Police say protesters have also tried to prevent MPs and personalities from leaving the Parliament building, while some of them have been forced back inside.

Police have announced that during the protest they have repeatedly called on participants to protest peacefully, not to damage public property, and not to prevent free movement of citizens.

While the protests continued to be held near state objects, a certain group of people in protest — in disappointment with the failure of the Special Law — have consistently thrown various items, pyrotechnic tools and fireworks towards state objects, police reports say.

According to police authorities, due to the continuing launch of the pyrotechnic means, traffic obstruction and risk of undermining state objects, police officials have been forced to take measures to put the situation under control.

Police have used tear gas, saying it has been done to enable MPs and other persons from the Parliament to exit and restore public order.

The situation has escalated even with the burning of certain refuse containers and lighting fires on the street. According to police, these actions have caused material damage.

However, police have indicated that until the moment the announcement was announced, it was not reported on any serious injury to persons.

Kosovo police have stressed that they recognise citizens’ right to protest and expression of discontent in a peaceful and democratic manner, while appealing to protesters to respect the law, do not harm public property and prevent freedom of movement.

According to police, while the protest continues, police units will remain on the ground for ensuring public order and security, protection of citizens and state objects, as well as for the success of the protest. /Telegraphy.
