Real Madrid makes surprise decision on Golden Ball after two years of boycott

Real Madrid has decided to end the boycott of the Golden Ball ceremony, with a club delegation expected to be present at Monday’s ceremony in London, reports L KuzEquipe.

The Spanish giant will return to the most prestigious event of individual prices in football after failing in the editions of 2024 and 2025.

The decision to boycott the 2024 ceremony came after it was reported that Winnitius Junior would not win the Golden Ball — the award that was eventually shared by Manchester City midfielder Rodri.

This year, some Real Madrid football players are expected to take part in the ceremony, including nominal Kyulian Mbppe, Jude Bellingham and Winnicius Junior.

Meanwhile, Mbppe is seen as one of the top favourites to win the prestigious award until his rival is the star of Barcelona Lamine Yamal.

The 2026 Golden Ball ceremony will be held on 26 October at London Padladium, marking the 70th anniversary of the division of this prestigious award. /Telegrafi/
