U.S. President Donald Trump found that he had thought to rename the Atlantic Ocean to Trump’s Ocean, but that he was advised to give up this idea from Google executive director Sundar Picchai.
Trump spoke about this proposal during a rally in Clemson, South Carolina, where he indicated that he had discussed the management of the technological company for the possibility of changing the name of the ocean.
According to the U.S. president, Pichai, whom he described as a brilliant man, explained that the oceans are different from the Gulfs and lakes, as they extend along territories of many countries.
Trump said that after this conversation, he decided not to continue the proposal.
So maybe I’ll quit. I think it’s better if the Atlantic Ocean remains, he declared.
The U.S. President had mentioned earlier the possibility of ocean change by proposing the names of Trump’s Ocean or America’s Ocean.
This idea comes after his administration’s decision to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico in the Gulf of America, the change Google Maps reflected for users in the United States.
However, changing geographical appointments to the national level does not imply that they are automatically accepted by other states. The names of the oceans, used internationally, cannot be changed solely by the American president’s decision.
