Tahiri: Returning Special Law to the Assembly Is Harmless

The alliance has described the return of the Special Law to the Parliament as harmful, voicing concern that the move could affect the cause of the war for freedom.

MP Besnik Tahiri has said today at the Commission for Legislation that the Alliance considers this action unacceptable.

Tahiri has also criticised the Government for lack of reaction in the two weeks that, according to him, the law has been in executives, Kp reports.

Returning the law to the Parliament as the Alliance has been seen as an extremely harmful, not serious act, which has essentially damaged the cause for us. Moreover, we are surprised that the government is shedding crocodile tears, as if a mistake had been found until two weeks in government and no comment was made. For the Alliance, it is an unacceptable act and we will see how it will turn out. The Hague defends the story of freedom, does not protect parties, defends our truth, will not allow the cause of freedom to be harmed… We still don’t know what will be changed, we haven’t seen the president’s return letter yet, Tahiri said.

President Justina Shiroka-Pula has made the decision on October 22nd to return to the Law Convention for Change and Fulfilling the Law for Specialised Chambers and the Specialised Prosecutor’s Office, which had passed second reading on October 6th.

It has accepted the official proposal of the Democratic Party of Kosovo Parliamentary Group, as sponsors of the law, to grant the Parliament the possibility of its review, especially of provisions linking with the jurisdiction and mandate of Specialised Chambers, as well as the full guarantee of the constitutional rights of persons being tried near these chambers.

In the argument of the decision, Shiroka-Pula has stressed the sacrifice, engagement and contribution of the Kosovo Liberation Army and its leaders to the fight for Kosovo’s freedom and independence.

It has also recalled its support for the Republic of Kosovo Declaration of September 28th 2026, regarding the act of specialised Chambers in The Hague against Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselini, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.

In the argument of the decision, the president has indicated that she has developed and is continuing consultations with representatives of relevant state institutions and subjects, with the aim of co-ordinating interilateral and diplomatic actions for the documentation, defence and affirmation of the historic truth of the Kosovo Liberation War and the role of the Kosovo Liberation Army, as well as for the best protection of its leaders’ rights and interests that are being judged in the Specialised Chambers.

Remember, the initiative no to my name on October 19th has asked President Justina Shiroka-Pula to carefully review the Law on Specialised Chambers and if it finds that there are provisions that are not in accordance with the Constitution or legal shortcomings, to return it to the Assembly for reconsideration.
