Today, early parliamentary elections are being held in Serbia, where Albanians of the Presevo Valley compete with a joint list called the Albanian Coalation, with a rating of 17.
In the case of elections, Albanians living in Presevo, Bujanoc and Medvedja, as well as those living in Kosovo, have been urged to exploit the right to vote and support the joint list, with the aim of ensuring as much representation in Serbia’s Parliament as possible.
Calls for mobilisation and voter turnout have made numerous Albanian political representatives, including the country’s president, Justina Shiroka Pula, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and Chief Parliamentary Albula Hadziu.
Support for participating in the elections has also expressed representatives of other political parties in Kosovo, including Vlora Citak from the PDK, Lutfi Haziri from the LDK and representatives of the Alliance. The calls have also been joined by DUI chairman in Northern Macedonia Ali Ahmeti.
The union of Albanian political parties on a single list aims to increase the representation of Albanians in Serbia’s institutions and strengthen their voice in parliament.
The polling stations are open at 7:00 and will be closed at 8:00. According to the Republican Election Commission, 6 million and 450 thousand and 523 voters were registered in the elections, while a total of 18 electoral lists compete.
Meanwhile, Serbs from Kosovo can vote at the polls scheduled in Vranje, Kursumli, Raska and Tutti.
The result of the Albanian coalition is expected to show the extent of the mobilisation of the Albanian electorate and the number of representatives this list could ensure in Serbia’s new composition.
