The European Democratic Party: Possible provocations warned during proclamation of preliminary results in Serbia

The European Democratic Party (Democrats) has issued an urgent statement warning of the danger of potential provocations and clashes in Serbia, at the time the first election results are expected to be published.

The statement reportedly has repeatedly received warnings that persons linked to the Serbian Progressive Party ( President Aleksandar Vuciq’s SNS can mobilise to spur the crash around 9:00.

According to Democrats, students require free and peaceful elections, as well as results defined by citizens’ votes. The party estimates the highest voter turnout could increase Vuciki’s fears of losing and, therefore, the risk of deliberate provocations.

In response, this party attributes political responsibility for preventing any possible escalation of the situation to Vuciqi and his government.

Democrats has also called for immediate police protection for voters, candidates, students and election monitors, stressing that Serbia’s future should be determined through vote, not violence.

Statements for mobilising SNS-related groups and risk of clashes are claims submitted by the European Democratic Party itself.
