Four dead after a tornado in Antalya

According to Governor Hulus Sahin, the victims were workers of a construction site who were sleeping when the tornado hit the area and destroyed the container where they had taken refuge.

Two workers lost their lives at the scene and two others at the hospital. A person was easily injured, Sahin told reporters.

He described the event as a very unusual natural phenomenon for the area, stressing that no other storm or tornado had been reported in the region and that there had been only rainfall in the affected area.

According to authorities, the phenomenon was limited to a small area and destroyed only two shelter facilities on the site, without causing damage in surrounding areas.

Antalya is expected to wait, after two weeks, hundreds of delegates from around the world for the UN Conference on Climate, COP31, which will be organised jointly by Turkey and Australia.

Meanwhile, in Istanbul, heavy rainfall, which began at night and intensified in the morning, caused problems in circulation. Turkish media reported that subpasses in several city neighbourhoods were flooded.

In mid-October, floods in Istanbul and surrounding provinces had caused eight victims.
