The Pentagon is setting up an additional Patriot air defence system in Israel, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources.
According to sources, the US Army has decided to send the system from Texas to strengthen Israel’s missile defence. The paper also reported that an additional attacker group would arrive in the region next month, joining approximately 20 American warships that have already been deployed in the Middle East.
According to W SJ, these movements are intended to grant US President Donald Trump a range of options if military operations against Iran resume.
The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on 28 February. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding that envisioned an immediate interruption of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon.
However, on the night of July 8th, the US resumed large-scale attacks against Iran, accusing Tehran of violating the terms of the agreements concerning the Hormuz Strait, Euronews.al writes.
Approximately 25% of the global oil trade and about 20% of the global translucent natural gas trade pass through the straits. The US administration then effectively signalled the end of the widespread use of military force against Iran and a change towards trying to drown the country economically through sanctions.
