Gezim Kastrati, Diana Kastrati’s father, has criticised Kosovo institutions for failing to care for families of family victims, saying that following his daughter’s murder, none of the institutions was interested in the family situation.
In Dabbat Plus, Kastrati said that neither he nor his wife nor his children nor his niece have been visited or contacted by institutions to see how they were facing the consequences of the murder.
From practice, my experience, except for the case, or someone from the institutions who asks how we live. Me or my wife or my children, or visit as a family, the society of the Republic of Kosovo, in the center of social work, in nothing. But neither my granddaughter has anyone to call him, who’s got a job, where he is, what he’s got, bona, he stressed.
He has described this as another state failure, stressing that after the murder of a woman, institutions should also care for children and family members who lag behind.
Kastrati has sought responsibility from institutions dealing with domestic violence cases, including police, Centres for Social Affairs, courts and prosecutors.
He has raised concern that, despite numerous cases of murder of women and domestic violence, he says, there has been insufficient institutional responsibility.
I’m going back to this first part. When a woman or a person seeks assistance in institutions, there are four institutions to run: Police, Social Work Center, Court and Prosecutor. But, until today, from my case, no one has left work, Kastrati has declared.
He has demanded that officials who have failed to fulfill their duties be investigated and face justice, stressing that responsibility should be valued for each institution and official, according to his role in handling the case.
