Following Arlinda Zekiaj’s assassination, PDK deputy urges Kurti to sack Svecla and Gervala

Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Besa Kabashi-Ramaj has asked the prime minister, Albin Kurti, the dismissal of Interior Affairs Minister Jjelal Svecla and Justice Minister Donika Grovalla, following the assassination of Arlinda Zekit.

In her speech in the Kosovo Assembly, Kabashi-Ramaj sought political and institutional responsibilities, saying Arlinda had sought help and warned institutions that her life was in danger, but had failed to defend itself.

She also referred to the 72-hour deadline that the prime minister, according to her, had asked for an account regarding the case.

If we don’t have a full report today, identified responsibilities and concrete measures, what value does the prime minister’s word have? The least you can do is dismiss the minister of interior affairs and justice minister, Kabashi-Ramaj said.

PDK MP stressed that the responsibility of ministers is not limited to running institutions when everything goes well, but should also be extended to cases when the system fails.

The Ministers aren’t there just to run institutions when everything goes well. They are there to take responsibility even when the system fails, she said.

During the speech, Kabashi-Ramaj criticised the government for what it described as a lack of results in protecting women, stressing that their security should be guaranteed under any circumstances.

National security does not start at our borders alone. It starts in our homes. On our streets. In the right of every girl to grow up without fear and of every woman to live free.

In the end, the MP called for concrete action and responsibility for institutional failures.

Stop looking for time to explain failures. Take responsibility to correct them. Because a Republic that does not protect women and girls has not yet fulfilled its freedom pledge, Kabashi-Ramaj concluded.
