Macedonia expects European Union member states to respect the highest standards of rule of law and considers Bulgaria to be home to condemned persons and persons against whom legal procedures are under way. Foreign Affairs Minister Timco Mucunski declared this today after meeting with Slovak counterpart Juraj Blnar, who is on an official visit to Skopje.
Mukunski stressed that the country continues its efforts to find a lasting solution to progress in European integration.
Mucunski, responding to a journalist’s question whether he has had a new meeting with his Bulgarian colleague after the incident with Iva Mihailova’s escape, said he would be careful in related statements because, as he stressed, Macedonia has no interest in becoming part of the political scene related to the topic, especially during the period when presidential elections are taking place in Bulgaria.
There is a dialogue and it will continue. We are creating a bilateral dialogue with Bulgaria, but also with representatives of the European Union and EU member states. We are actively discussing all decisions related to European integration, because they require consensus, Mucunski said.
Mukunski announced that there have been important meetings at the highest level in recent days, including with French Minister for European Affairs in Montenegro, where he has directly presented our country’s positions. He stressed that during today’s meeting with his Slovak counterpart, Juraj, unblocking the Euro-intensive process was one of the main topics, given that all decisions related to enlargement and integration have exceptional weight and demand full consensus in Brussels.
He stressed that any solution that will be reached with Bulgaria, if it is in line with the country’s positions, will have to receive support and consensus within the EU. According to him, the country’s European path has no alternative and the government will continue to work on the issue./Telegraphy/
