US Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied that Washington helped Flavius Bolsonaron leave Brazil and travel to the United States, saying the administration was not involved in organising his departure.
Rubio said the US government had no direct role in organising the departure of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s son.
We did not facilitate anything, said Rubio.
We were not involved in any of the agreements he made regarding the dismissal, he added.
Rubio acknowledged that President Donald Trump had authorised Bolsonaro’s entry, explaining that Brazilian politician already had a valid visa.
The president made it clear that if he arrived at an entrance port in the United States, he would be released on condition of entry, and he was released, Ruby said.
Bolsonaro, who lost last week’s presidential run-off to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, has claimed election fraud without presenting evidence and has pledged to lead the opposition from Florida.
His departure came despite a command by the Supreme Court of Brazil demanding that he hand over his passports amid money laundering investigations and financial fraud.
