Russian authorities have announced that a massive fearful attack has targeted an industrial company in the Nizeny Novgorod region during the night, while reports on war monitoring channels claim the target was an important oil refinery.
The regional governor, Gleb Nikitin, announced in the Telegram that the fearful attack has caused considerable damage to an industrial facility in the Kstovsky district.
More than 100 fears have been destroyed, Nikitti wrote, adding that initial information does not report victims and that emergency teams are at the scene.
He also warned that during operations to restore the operation, there could be temporary power cuts, as well as restrictions on the supply of hot water and heating in some residential areas.
Meanwhile, the Telegram war monitoring channels reported that the target of the attack was the oil refinery in Kstovo, also known as the Lukoil-Nizergorodteorgsintez refinery, considered one of the largest objects in Russia.
According to Lukoil Company, diesel oil and aviation fuel are produced in the refinery, among other things, broadcast by Telegrafi.
This incident comes just days after reports of a large fire in another oil refinery in the Russian region of Samara, following a drone attack. Social media published images showed large columns of black smoke rising above the area.
The attacks on Russian energy infrastructure have been part of Ukraine’s strategy this year, with mainly refinery, terminals and oil depots targets. Kiev aims to hit one of the leading sectors of the Russian economy and weaken Moscow’s capacities to finance the war.
The latest reported attack comes at a time when Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky said some 280 thousand families in Ukraine have remained without electricity following Friday night’s Russian attacks.
In a response published on Saturday on the X platform, Zelensky said about 200,000 families in Dnipro and the surrounding region were without energy, while at least another 80 thousand in the Kiev region were facing the same problem.
According to him, Russian forces had hit a combined power and heating production plant in Kiev, as well as four electrical substations in the eastern region of Dnepros, along with other objectives. /Telegraphy/
