Education in Kosovo faces challenges, reforms required, quality growth

Deputy Education Minister Progress Kryeziu has indicated that education in early childhood will be one of the four main pillars of the new education strategy in Kosovo.

During the discussion, organised by the Commission for Education and Science, with the theme “Sphides and Priorities at Pre-university Education in the Republic of Kosovo, Kryeziu has stressed the importance of early education for the socio-emotional development of children and the establishment of education quality.

Studies, he says, show that students who have followed education in early childhood regularly perform better than those who did not.

Kryeziu has announced that the Ministry of Education aims to expand the network of public nests and develop other forms of education at this stage.

Meanwhile, Commission for Education and Science Chairman Enver Hoxhaj has estimated that the results of the international test PISA spread serious weaknesses of the education system in Kosovo.

Hoxhaj has stressed that so far there has been no real debate on the Ministry of Education strategy, raising students’ assessment, textbooks and education interconnection to the labour market as important issues.

He has underlined that the quality of education depends largely on preparing, working, and teaching conditions in the classroom.

According to Hoxhaj, one of the main challenges remains preparing young people for the job market, as well as the need to address the problems reflected by the results of international estimates.
