The protest indicating demand for justice and institutional accountability following the assassination of Arlinda Zekiaj has entered on the sixth day.
Protesters are seeking institutional responsibility for the case, while during the protest, they have called for the resignation of Interior Minister Jhelal Svecla, and Justice Minister Donika Grovalla.
The protest has started in Pristina today and is being held for the sixth day in a row, following the murder of Arlinda Zekiaj. It is organised by the Council for Religious Thought and Action, with demands for justice and institutional responsibility.
Among the main demands of protesters is the dismissal of Justice Minister Donika Grovalla, and the resignation of Interior Minister Jedal Svecla.
Protesters are also demanding that the childicide be treated as national emergency, as well as the investigation and prosecution of institutional officials allegedly neglecting Zekij’s case.
They seek responsibility from Kosovo’s justice institutions, Kosovo Police and the Centre for Social Work, if it is found that the relevant officials have not fulfilled their duties in handling the case.
Among the requirements is the ensuring social residence for domestic violence survivors and the creation of more effective mechanisms for protecting women at risk. Organisers have announced that the protests will continue until their demands are met.
Arlinda Zekaj was killed on October 25th in Vitomirica, Pec. The case has prompted public reactions and demand for the investigation of institutional responsibility. Meanwhile, the Assembly has established a parliamentary investigative commission for the actions and inactions of institutions in this case.
