Lack of uniforms in the Kosovo Police has reportedly postponed the graduation ceremony of the new generation of Kosovo Police, reports Online Economy.
On this issue, opposition MPs have criticised the Government of Kosovo, calling it a non-serious approach to dealing with security institutions.
Democratic Party of Kosovo MP ( PDK), Mergim Lushtaku, has said that non-forcing in uniforms and hats is scandalous, demanding responsibility from Kosovo Police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Unfortunately, this shows the seriousness of power in what state the dignity of Kosovo police officers treat and present it to the public. And with regret, but it’s really scandalous not to sell in uniform and hats, and that unfortunately, we should also be dealing with as deputies in such cases that are perhaps secondary. And therefore, of course, responsibility must be sought by the Kosovo Police, but also by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, why the Kosovo Police have not been supplied in uniform, Lushtaku has declared.
Meanwhile, Alliance MP Burim Ramadani has criticised Interior Affairs Minister Jjelal Svecla, saying the state of work conditions for police is miserable.
He has cited the lack of uniform and basic equipment, bulletproof vests, winter tires for police cars, as well as the insufficientness of police vehicles.
It’s a disaster. Minister Jhelal Svecla’s bad governance in the Ministry of Interior and especially in relation to the police. These situations are inexplicable for anyone who normally thinks because they are processes that have to be carried out on time. The state of labour conditions for Kosovo police is miserable, unfortunately, and it is not the first time I say, that the lack of uniforms, of individual basic equipment needed by police officers, bars, rubber bars and others are in absentia. He misses cops. Even when they have to change each other’s uniform, or when the new generation of cops don’t have a vest even further, or when bulletproof vests have expired for deadlines, or winter tires for police cars, for what they’re cars, have passed and the tender has been cancelled. Or when the police cars are insufficient and even the pay officers themselves are forced to fix them, even if they do regular service. So we’re talking about a sad state of governance of MPB and Police, and I think that enough of Minister Jedal Svechla has to leave this post, as it says an hour ago, because the damage to the interior and police institution is enormously great, Ramadan has declared.
Ramadani has warned that it will also seek clarification for the movement of directors within the Kosovo Police, saying it will reject any political motives in this institution.
We will need, even as a member of the Commission for Security, of course I will request full clarification and information on the movements within the Kosovo Police. If they are due to professional procedures or professional conception, it is also understandable, because these changes can occur in security institutions. But if there are other motives that can be political, then I’ll raise my voice to the utmost. What’s important is that the operational function of the police is preserved. And over the past few years, Minister Jedal Svecla has been brought as police commander rather than minister and has subsequently violated the operational autonomy of the Kosovo Police, Ramadani has said.
