Albania will welcome the next NATO summit in Tirana, while preparations and issues of strategic importance for the Alliance were the focus of the meeting Prime Minister Edi Rama held this Tuesday in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
During the meeting, Rama and Rutte discussed current Euro-Atlantic security challenges and strengthening strategic co-operation among Alliance member states.
Special attention was given to hybrid threats, including cyber attacks, dezination, foreign interventions, and protection of critical infrastructure.
Another topic discussed was the development of Corridor V III as the corridor of military furniture, connecting the Adriatic Sea with the Black Sea, and is of strategic importance to the security of NATO’s southeast wing.
The Porto Romano project and its role in developing infrastructure and logistical capacities in support of the Alliance were discussed in this context.
The hold of the upcoming NATO Summit was also reconfirmed during the conversation, following the decision taken by allied countries. Organising this forum represents an important event for Albania, which will welcome the highest political representative of the Alliance’s member states.
The summit is expected to focus on the strategic importance of the Western Balkans for Euro-Atlantic security and stability.
Meanwhile, earlier during his stay in Brussels, Rama participated in the Euronews Entegment Summiı, where he called for the European Union to take bold steps for enlargement, stressing that Albania and other Western Balkan countries should become part of the European project on the basis of merit.
The Albanian prime minister said that, despite the complex challenges and issues associated with the integration process, the European Union remains the best option for the region.
I firmly believe that, in a world that is going crazy, where realities are changing and new forces are suddenly becoming very important, the EU has to do something just as bold, that goes beyond ordinary and daily work, Rama said.
He underlined that the enlargement process should be based on merit and that no country should seek special treatment or short routes towards membership.
Nobody should ask for gifts, shortcuts, or flexibility in this process. Take us home because it is our home, as is yours, the prime minister has said.
