Abdul El-Sayed wins the race in Michigan, becomes the first Muslim senator in US history

Democrat candidate Abdul El-Said has won the American Senate race in Michigan state, becoming the first Muslim senator in the history of the United States, according to NBC News projections.

The Democrats’ victory in Michigan adds to republican losses in several other Senate races, including those in Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Maine, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas, broadcast Telegrafi.

El-Said, who represents the Democratic Party’s progressive wing, faced several obstacles during the campaign. One of them was the support that moderate Democrat Haley Stevens, whom he had defeated in the preliminary elections, gave his rival Republican Mike Rogers, backed by President Donald Trump, just one day before the vote.

His victory also constitutes a political blow to Trump, who during the campaign had repeatedly attacked the democratic candidate, using Islamic language and calling it égihadı.

In his speech after his victory, El-Said referred to the attacks he had experienced during the campaign, saying he faced one of the most hideous campaigns I have seen during my lifetime.

Meanwhile, his Republican rival, Mike Rogers, urged supporters to leave and go home just before 0600 British times, although he insisted that there was still a chance for victory.

The result in Michigan marks another defeat for the Republicans and an important political signal for the Trump administration, in a set of elections of the Mesmandat that have brought significant changes to the composition of the American Senate. /Telegraphy/
