The European Union is working on organising a new summit between Kosovo and Serbia, as leaders of both sides have pledged to participate in a joint table, with Brussels’ mediation.
Thus EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Kaya Kallas announced during the media conference on the presentation of the 2026 Enlargement Package.
I have held many high-level meetings, with both Kosovo and Serbia, and I have been promised by the leaders of both sides to sit together, the three of us, Kallas said.
She made it known that preparations for this meeting have started, while the EU’s special representative for dialogue is working intensively towards advancing the process.
However, Kallas acknowledged that the institutional situation in Kosovo has been one of the obstacles to holding a trilateral meeting.
For a year we didn’t really have a government and functional institutions, which prevented this trilateral meeting, she said.
The chief of European diplomacy stressed that it remains committed to engage both sides in order for dialogue to get progress, underlining the importance of normalising relations for the European perspective of Kosovo and Serbia.
I assure you that I am willing to engage and engage with them, as I have done so far with the authorities, to really advance this process, because it is necessary for both sides to advance in the enlargement process, she said.
Kallas did not disclose when the next meeting between Kosovo, Serbia and the European Union is expected to be held.
