Zelensky appeal to Spain and Latin America to support Ukraine’s energy system

Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky on Thursday urged Spain and Latin American countries to help rebuild and restore Ukraine’s energy system, which has suffered major damage from Russian attacks.

We need as much international co-operation as possible in order to continue rebuilding and restoring our energy system, the Ukrainian leader said during a meeting under the 30th Ibero-American Summit, which ended today in the Spanish capital.

We need more materials, transformers, electrical cables, modern electronic devices, as well as various types of generators, both oil and gas, Volodymyr Zelensky said, in the presence of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, the presidents of Guatemala and Honduras, Bernardo Arevalo and Nasri Asfora, and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterrez, and European President Antonio Costa.

We know that companies in Spain and Latin America can help us in this effort, he added, referring to broadcasters from Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Colombia, electrical cables from Chile, as well as electronic devices, cables and generators produced in Spain.

This is extremely important, he stressed, adding: We need compatible equipment with our country’s power grid and we need it urgently. Therefore, we ask you to provide immediate support, facilitating our communication with companies and access to your production skills so that supplies can reach Ukraine as soon as possible. )

The Ukrainian president’s visit to Spain, following his trip to Berlin on Tuesday, came amid renewed diplomatic efforts to revive hopes for peace, as well as recent communication between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

These developments have raised concerns in Kiev about the possibility of attracting US support as Ukraine prepares for a difficult winter amid Russian bombings.
