US President Donald Trump declared that the war in Ukraine is very close to completion and announced that a huge deal is being prepared with Russia ʹa deal that, according to him, may involve not only Ukraine but all of Europe.
Trump made those comments Thursday, following an unprecedented meeting at the White House with Kiril Dmitriev, a special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, Trump refused to disclose details of the conversation, but stressed that it is a big deal.
I can’t tell you what we discussed. But I can tell you that a big deal will be reached. It’s gonna be so big. It will involve more than just Ukraine; I can even say it may involve all of Europe. It will be a great, beautiful agreement, and everyone will be extremely pleased, Trump said.
The American president added that on Thursday he did not meet with Ukrainian officials, who were also at the White House.
In the meantime, Jared Kouchner: Trump’s son-in-law and American envoy, announced that the United States, NATO and European partners have developed productive and substantial discussions about a possible end to the war in Ukraine. Our goal is to address the security concerns of all sides through mutually agreed practical agreements that will reduce the risk of future conflicts, Kouchner wrote on the platform of the X social networks.
Further talks, in which representatives from Kiev and Moscow will participate, are scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi next week.
Trump has previously spoken of a quick end to the war in Ukraine. During his presidential campaign, he promised to end the conflict within a single day after the return to the White House, though no concrete solution has been presented.
Ukraine, Russia thank Melanie Trump
Representatives from Russia and Ukraine visited the White House on Thursday for an event that highlighted the humanitarian efforts of the first US lady, Melanie Trump, who helped mediate a recent ceasefire in the war-torn town of Olesky. Russian envoy Kiril Dmitriev thanked Melanie Trump for what she described as her important humanitarian role in achieving a six-day ceasefire.
He added that Vladimir Putin had given personal instructions during the operation and had expressed his gratitude for the first US lady.
Davyd Arakhamia, the head of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s parliamentary group, and Ombudsman for Human Rights in Ukraine, Dmytro Lubinets, also spoke in the event.
Arakhamia praised Melanie Trump for his excellent work and asked her to continue supporting the Ukrainian people. We would like to ask you to continue, find new missions and help reduce tensions as much as possible, Arakhamia said.
