Erona Coklin’s brother seeks justice in protest: no child should be raised without his mother

Erona Coklin’s brother, Drilon, has attended the protest against the murder of women, where he has shared the family’s pain of losing his sister and sought justice for all the women killed.

During his speech, he remembered April 12th, 2024, the day Erona was killed by her former husband, Valon Ali, within the Ferizaj Centre for Social Affairs, following a dispute over the custody of their son.

Drillon has said that the family is not satisfied with the 24-year prison sentence, stressing that the sister’s loss has left a pain that cannot be healed.

Every murder leaves behind a family destroyed, tears and pain that never heal. I am speaking not only as a citizen but as a brother who has experienced the worst loss. On April 12, 2024, I lost my sister, Eron, and since that day, my life is no longer the same, he said.

Commenting on the consequences that this murder has left with the family, he has also isolated the pain of his nephew, who is growing without his mother.

My pain becomes even more intense when I see my nephew mentioning his mother, remembering her and missing her. How can you explain to a child why his mother won’t come back? How can you fill the void that no one can replace? He will grow with the merchandise for his mother, while we will live with the pain of losing Erona. We as a family are not satisfied with the 24-year sentence. For us, no punishment can bring Erona back, but we believe that her life deserves justice and that the pain of our family should be heard, he added.

In his speech, Drillon urged citizens not to be treated only as news after several days, seeking justice for Erona and all other victims.

Please, don’t just look at the murders as a news story that is forgotten in a few days. Each victim has a family, suffering children, broken dreams, and a lifelong pain. Justice for Erona and all the victims. How many other lives must be lost, and how many families must suffer in order to understand the value of human life? And finally, I want to mention Arlinda. The pain of a family losing a loved one does not end with the burial day. It goes on every day, every memory, every tear and every absence. I don’t want the names of Erona, Arlinda, or any other woman left just a piece of news and statistics. I want them to be remembered, not forgotten, and that justice for them will not remain just one requirement, but that it become a reality, he said.

Erona Cokli was killed on 12 April 2024 by her former husband, Valon Aliu, within the Ferizaj Centre for Social Affairs, following a disagreement over the custody of their son.

During this incident, Aliu had also injured Erona’s brother and committed murder at the Social Work Center.
