Strategy for Appeals of former KLA leaders, working group agrees for first steps

The deputy head of the Kosovo Assembly, Vlora Citaku, has indicated that the discussions and work of the working group for drafting the State Strategy over the appeals procedure to former KLA leaders will remain confidential.

After the meeting held Saturday at the Kosovo Government object in Pristina, Citaku said members of the group have agreed that the content of discussions and agreements reached are not made public.

We agreed on privacy. This group needs to speak work rather than statements, she spoke to reporters.

Asked whether concrete decisions were made during the meeting, Citaku did not elaborate, but confirmed there were some decisions.

The first deputy prime minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Glauk Konjufca has been appointed to head this mechanism. Representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister, the President’s Office, the Speaker of the Parliament and all parliamentary groups, including those of non-US communities, are part of the group.

The group has a six-month term, with the possibility of continuing, while within the first 30 days it must draft the State Strategy and Action Plan proposal.

Otherwise, the four former KLA leaders were sentenced on 16 September to a total of 81 years in prison for war crimes, while being acquitted of charges of crimes against humanity.
