German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has indicated that Germany cannot currently provide Ukraine with other Patriot air defence systems, as such an act would create gaps in protecting the country itself.
The Declaration, Pistorius, was given in an interview for the German newspaper Berliner Morgenpost, Part of the Funke media group, published on November 7, 2026. He stressed that Berlin has already handed over several Patriot systems and a large number of rockets, while remaining reserves cannot be further reduced without endangering national security.
Pistorius called on other NATO member states to add their contribution, stressing that some of them have apparently offered less help than Germany. According to him, this issue should be discussed at the upcoming Contact Group meeting for Ukraine, expected to be held in mid-November.
He also voiced pessimism about the possibility of reaching a ceasefire in the near future.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned of the consequences of the lack of Patriot missiles, at a time when Russia is intensifying attacks on energy and transport infrastructure in Ukraine.
Zelensky said the lack of air defence missiles has caused some of the Russian attacks to cause significant damage. He said that during the night the Dnipro River bridge, including the North Bridge in Kiev, was also hit, to which, according to him, six ballistic missiles were launched, four of which hit the target.
Ukrainian president stressed that Kiev’s priority at future international meetings will be to secure more air protection systems and support for the energy sector.
