Reports of explosions in southern Iran

Iranian state media have reported explosions at several locations in the southern province of Hormozhan. Blasts were reported on the island of Kashm, in Siric, Jask, and Bandar Abbas, while there are controversial reports about who is responsible for the blasts.

Iranian state television said the origin of the explosions remains unclear, suggesting they may be linked to Iranian military activity aimed at protecting Hormuz Strait.

Meanwhile, state news agency IRNA initially reported two explosions east of Keshm Island as local residents reported explosions near Jask. However, Tasnim had earlier reported that two rockets had hit the island without specifying possible damage. Even the Iranian agency Fars reported on the blasts, but added it is unknown where the reasons or causes have occurred.

Recent reports by Iranian media come a day after US President Donald Trump confirmed that US forces had carried out limited attacks on an Iranian air system on November 6th.

Trump did not reveal where the attacks were carried out, but Iranian media claimed in advance that Iranian defence had destroyed an American threat to Keshm Island.

The strategic island of Keschm is at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the most important sea routes in the world to transport energy.

The island is home to a large underground site for rockets, a naval base, and a large water desalination plant, according to The Wall Street Journal. The island has been targeted by American forces in the early stages of fighting, while American officials have also discussed the possibility of taking control of it.

President Trump also said Washington is continuing contact with Tehran.

We’re talking to Iran. We’ve been in touch. They, desperately, want a deal, he said.

The US and Israel launched attacks on Iran in late February. President Trump has repeatedly reiterated that the main goal of the US military campaign is for Iran to be unable to possess Nuclear weapon.
