Many drivers make mistakes just when they switch lanes. Here is what the law predicts in Kosovo, and how an accident can be avoided
Two cars move almost in parallel in a two-lane roll. One is in the inner lane and wants out, while the other, in the outer lane, continues the circulation.
As the exit approaches, their trajectorys may be interrupted, and a wrong decision could cause collision.
This situation causes confusion even among experienced drivers. Some feel that the vehicle is ahead, while others believe that the driver who wants to get out should be allowed to pass.
But what is defined by the law in Kosovo?
Which car has the advantage?
In the situation presented in the illustration, if there is no signal specifying otherwise, there is a priority in the car that continues moving in the outer lane.
Head in the inner lane, to get out of the circle, must cross the other lane. Therefore, I cannot stop the road that already moves there.
By Law No. 08/ L-186 for Kosovo Road Traffic RulesArticle 38 stipulates that the driver can launch an maneuver, including the shift of the tape, only after making sure that he does not endanger or hinder other traffic participants.
What do the arrows in the illustration indicate?
The blue arrow represents the interior car trajector.
The orange arrow shows the car in the outer lane, which continues the circulation.
If the first car driver tries to get in front of the other vehicle, the risk of a side crash arises.
For this very reason, the traveling leader needs to control the mirrors, the blind angle, and the space needed for maneuvering.
Does lighting the beacon give you priority?
No. The beacon warns other leaders of your goal, but does not automatically give you priority.
Even if the driver in the inner lane activates the right signal, he should wait until the lane is turned safely.
Article 39 of the law requires that the driver warn clearly and in time other participants of the planned maneuver.
So signaling is obligation, but it doesn’t replace respect for priority.
Does the outer lane always have priority?
Not under any circumstances.
In some fences, signs and rows on asphalt determine the obligatory direction for each lane.
If the outside lane is permitted only to exit a certain direction, the driver should observe that signal.
Hence, the priority is determined not only by the position of the car but also by the rules that apply to concrete circumcision.
What if you can’t get out?
One of the most dangerous mistakes is trying to escape at any cost, even when the outer lane is busy.
If there is not enough space, the driver should postpone maneuvering and continue circulation where this is permitted.
The long – term selection of lanes, adaptable speed, and control of surrounding vehicles are essential to avoiding accidents.
How much can a bad maneuver cost you?
The Law on Road Traffic Rules, Article 38, provides fines from 100 euro and a negative point for violations defined in this article.
While Article 39 envisions a 40-euro fine for disregarding signaling obligations.
Applying the fine depends on concrete violation and random circumstances.
The Rule to Remember
In the situation of the illustration, the car in the inner lane should give priority to the outside lane, as the latter continues to move in line with the road signal.
The desire to come out does not automatically create priorities.
A lost exit may be corrected, but a hasty maneuver may end with an accident. /Telegraphy/
