From promises of tremendous profits on cryptovaluta, to platforms that showed extinguishable benefits, and to citizens who were left without their savings. An alleged financial fraud scheme, with potential casualties in dozens of states and damages exceeding 4m euros, has been hit in a major international operation. Three people have been arrested in Kosovo, while the action has included raids in Pristina, Fushe Kosovo and Ferizaj.

The signal newspaper, which reported in the morning hours for the Economic Crimes Operation, has provided new information on arrested persons.

According to signal sources, two of the people arrested are Ilir Haziri and Milot Preteni. Additional information is being verified about the identity of the third person, as the Special Prosecutor’s official announcements have been identified with the initials I.H., M.P. and F.Z.

The Special Prosecutor has confirmed that the action has been held at five locations in Pristina, Fushe Kosovo and Ferizaj, under suspicion of participating or organising the organised criminal group, fraud, unauthorised cyber access and computer fraud.

Promises of profit from investments, victims allegedly left without money

International investigations have uncovered a suspected scheme through which citizens, mainly from German-speaking countries, were not to invest money in platforms that were presented as legitimate.

The individuals involved were allegedly represented as agents or financial mediators, promising the victims benefits from investments in krypovaluta, foreign currency and other financial instruments.

But the profits shown on platform screens were allegedly false, while the money citizens transferred were not invested as promised.

According to Europol, investigations have identified a structure that allegedly provided fraudulent platforms for criminal groups, while call centres served to contact and convince victims to transfer money.

Seven arrests, over 100 servers seized

The size of this operation goes far beyond Kosovo.

Europol and Eurojust have indicated that the November 3rd action has resulted in seven international arrests, raids on 17 locations and the seizure of more than 100 servers.

According to European institutions, investigations have identified financial losses of over 4m euros, while the scheme allegedly had potential casualties in at least 50 states.

The operation has included authorities from Kosovo, Albania, Cyprus, Finland, Germany and Northern Macedonia, with investigative action also in Israel.

Investigations have been conducted in co-operation with German authorities and with Eurojust and Europol support.

Kosovo raids seized car and electronic equipment

In Kosovo, the operation was carried out by economic and cybercrime investigators, in co-ordination with the Special Prosecutor.

The raids have temporarily seized cars, mobile phones, computers, and other electronic devices that can serve as material evidence.

Representatives of German authorities and cybercrime experts from Europol have also participated in the implementation of investigative actions.

The three persons arrested in Kosovo have been detained for 48 hours, while investigations are continuing to identify other suspected persons and tracking property that could be derived from illegal activity.

The signal will continue to convey developments in this operation and new information on the persons involved.
