The executive director of the Agency for Gender Equality under the Office of the Prime Minister, Edi Gusia, has demanded that, in the case of the murder of Arlinda Zekiaj, the responsibility of all institutions involved, not only the Police and Prosecutorship, be considered.
Gusia, invited to the Dıbat Plus, described Arlinda as an example of courage and called for her death not to be used for political revenge as she also mentioned the number of women killed in Kosovo, stressing that this phenomenon remains disturbing.
Arlinda is an outstanding example of courage, is a woman who has given us a great lecture on the whole of Kosovo society, and I would like to, beyond the task of practicing as a woman in Kosovo, to take advantage of the opportunity that, along with all citizens of Kosovo and even guests, take a step back and not use the death of a woman for any kind of political revenge, because that does not lead us anywhere, Gusia said.
She claimed that during the period 2018,2022, 20 women were killed in cases that, according to her, contain central elements of childicide.
According to Gusi, more than 90 women have been killed in Kosovo in the last 20 years, while eight cases have been recorded this year.
Gusia said institutional responsibility in the case of Arlinda Zekiaj should be treated overall, including the role of the Centre for Social Work, which she claimed had initiated the first violation of the victim.
We know that neglect and non-calculation of institutions do not affect a chain link. Here you are talking about the police and the Prosecutor for the right reason, but we are forgetting a large number of institutions that have been involved in this case, which is originally the Centre for Social Affairs, where the child’s care is initially given to the rebellious father, and here really begins the entire transition of the situation, because it is known that a child of minor age, in no circumstances, is not given to the bully, father, but is given to the mother, and that is where the first violation of Arlinda began, said.
Gusia also raised questions about whether Arlinda Zekaj had received support from victims’ advocates or free legal assistance.
She said that, according to her assessment, institutions have had to take protective measures against other persons who could pose risks to the victim.
In all this chain of institutions, the opinion of the victims’ defenders is completely lacking, we don’t know whether Arlinda has received support from victims’ advocates or free legal assistance. We as agencies are not the institution that handles cases of defense orders issued against all members of the husband’s family or ex-husband who threaten. The prosecutor had to resign his defense order to the brother-in-law when the police went and knocked on his brother-in-law’s door didn’t open the door, the prosecutor automatism had to give me a warrant for protection, and the family part that is not a nucleus had to be automatized from home. There is no sense in order to live with the rest of the former man’s family, Gusia said.
In the end, she demanded that the evaluation report be expected in the case, for which Prime Minister Albin Kurti had extended 52 hours.
All I ask is to wait for the report that the prime minister, Albin Kurti, gave him 52 hours and to see the objective assessment of what happened in this case is not the first case that murdered women have sent a letter, Gusia said.
