Sharing the latest statistics on the number of visitors to Gjirokastra fortress, Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gondjja stressed that in addition to increasing the number of visitors, the monument has also registered a 10.5% increase in revenues in proportion to the same period last year.
During January 2026, a total of 300 thousand local and foreign visitors have discovered the splendor, history, and heritage of this iconic monument. A success that marks 6.5% more visitors and 10.5% more revenues compared to the same period last year, Gondja said.
Gjirokastra’s fortress is one of the most important monuments of historical and cultural heritage in the country, as well as one of the main points for local and foreign tourists in the stone town. The National Museum of Arms opened in 1971, where weapons of various historical periods are displayed. It is situated on a slightly removed hill from the Far Mountain, erected at a survey point about 370m above sea level.
Interest in Gjirokastra is growing year-on-year, turning the city into one of the most important points of Albanian cultural tourism.
