Kidney cancer cases in under 50 years of age in England have increased by 12 percent within a year, raising concerns among experts about the difficulty of early identification.
According to British National Health Service data ( NHS), the number of diagnosiss in this age group increased from 1,035 cases in 2023 to 1,227 in 2024.
Although kidney cancer is traditionally linked to procrastinated age, experts note that cases in younger adults have seen gradual growth in recent years. The precise reasons for this development have not yet been determined.
One of the main concerns is that the disease may go unnoticed in early stages, as its symptoms are often confused with other health problems.
Andrew Graves, director of the charitable organization Kidney Cancer UK, has warned that back pain, constant fatigue, and night sweat can be interpreted as consequences of stress, muscle strain or hormonal changes.
Four Symptoms Not to Be Neglected
Among the signs that can be shown in kidney cancer are:
Blood in hungerOne of the best known signs of the disease.
Back pain or one side of the bodyWhich can be confused with muscle problems.
Continued LossWhich may appear without a clear cause.
Saturation at nightWhich may in some cases be a warning sign.
However, these symptoms do not necessarily mean the presence of cancer, since it may be caused by other health problems. Experts recommend that persistent or inexplicable symptoms be appreciated by the doctor.
Another concern is late diagnosis. According to data cited in the report, about one in five patients is diagnosed in the fourth phase, when the disease has spread beyond the kidney.
Experts stress that treatment opportunities have improved thanks to the development of targeted immun therapy and therapy, but early diagnosis remains crucial.
Why are young people growing up?
Scientists still do not have a final explanation for the increase in diagnosis. One of the possibilities is the most frequent use of tests such as tomography and ultrasound, through which kidney changes can be discovered by chance.
According to Graves, more than half of kidney cancer cases are discovered during tests conducted on other health problems.
Smoking, obesity, and high blood pressure are among the most dangerous factors in developing the disease.
NHS data, meanwhile, shows that during 2024 in England a total of 373,574 new diagnosiss of cancer were recorded, not including the most common forms of skin cancer.
Experts urge citizens not to neglect unusual signs and seek medical evaluation, as early identification can improve treatment opportunities.
